Fellowship Tuition Policy

Degree-seeking graduate students may take courses beyond their degree requirements through the Fellowship Courses policy, without additional cost to the student and with little or no cost to the University. This option is not available to students enrolled only in certificate programs.

A Fellowship Course Application must be submitted to Graduate Studies before the end of late registration (the Add/Drop period) and must include the signatures of both the course instructor and the student’s advisor. Students must be in good standing and meet all course prerequisites.

In the fall and spring semesters, students are not charged for fellowship courses as long as they are enrolled in the minimum number of credit hours required for their degree program. In the summer, no minimum enrollment is required. Standard University drop/add and withdrawal policies apply. Students may take up to eight fellowship courses total.

Please note that fellowship courses:

  • cannot be approved retroactively;
  • may not include thesis research courses (651 and 701) or similar courses;
  • may not be audited; and
  • do not affect the GPA for the student’s degree program.
